This is the view looking north from "The Belvédère" lookout, a high point located near the central part of Moorea. From left to right, that's Opunohu Bay, Mount Rotui and Cook's Bay. The Bali Hai hotel is along the coast to the right (east) of Cook's Bay.

Most of the pictures here were taken while on a "Safari Tour" of the island. The road up to the Belvédère (which starts off the coastal road at Oponohu Bay) is accessible by automobile, but many of the other roads in the interior of the island require 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Above, we stopped in a valley on the way up to the lookout. I think that's Mt. Tohivea, Mt. Mouaroa and maybe part of Mt. Mouapu from left to right (or maybe not). The 4-wheel drive vehicle that took us on the trip is on the right.

Above: Phyllis among the vanilla bean plants.

Right: Atiraa Falls; a hike after rough going in the jeep. Phyllis didn't hike. I didn't swim.

What you don't see here is the soaking rain we endured after the visit to the waterfall. They gave us too-small yellow raincoats and pulled the tarp over the top of the jeep, but it didn't help much. We got soaked through and through. A very wet end to a very nice tour of Moorea.

Well, that's about it for Bora Bora and Moorea. I hope you enjoyed the tour.

The picture on the left was taken along the safari tour by one of our tour group. Some of the pictures on these pages were scanned from slides taken with the Nikon N70 and Nikon's 24-120mm zoom, while the rest (except for underwater) were scanned from prints taken with Phyllis' Olympus Stylus Zoom 80, a great little point and shoot camera.

I'll leave you with a shot of the sunset on Moorea taken from the boardwalk leading to our bungalow at the Bali Hai hotel.
